This Week's Update [8/30/15] - Some Long Rides

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi All,

We didn't get to ride many days this week, but the ones we did this weekend were awesome!  Monday, Steve had his next CT scan.  It's not exactly what you would think of, but at this point in time Steve probably has obtained platinum customer status where he goes for the test.  We always have the same staff and got express service to the front of the line on Monday.  It does help that Steve has pictures to show of Olivia.  :-)   We get the test results this Tuesday.

I had to travel for work on Tuesday / Wednesday and didn't get home until very early Thursday morning so those days were also no ride days.  We did make up for that this weekend with the best 3 consecutive days we have had riding this year (52 miles in 3 days). Steve has been talking all season about riding even further west to go to a bike shop on the canal and have ice cream.  It would have been 32 miles round trip from our house (which was unlikely to happen this season) so on Saturday, we put the rack on the car and picked up the canal path a little further west.  It was still a good 20-mile ride round trip.  The bike shop is called Trailside Bicycles in the hamlet of Hurlburton.

For those of you not familiar with New York, a hamlet is the smallest entity of a community (City->Town->Village->Hamlet).  The owner said it was his 4th year in business so he must get most of his customers from canal riders as the only other thing we heard in Hurlburton were crickets.

As you know, Steve and I have a lot of matching jerseys.   Today we wore our black and white checks - complete with matching socks Steve found for us.

Since we rode east, we double back past the stairs at the end of the ride.  My knee was bothering me a little so I stopped at the stairs and Steve rode on to make the final loop.  I had to laugh because the guy who saw me stopped at the stairs also saw Steve on the path at the village and said "There is someone just ahead of you with the same jersey."  :-)

Miles for the week are 52, miles for 2015 are 2,290 and total miles are 14,544.

Take care,

Zelma

This Week's Update [8/23/15] - Wonderful Birthday!

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi All,

First - thank you for all the messages, cards, and well wishes for my birthday.  Steve and GJ made me a wonderful birthday dinner complete with chocolate cake.  I can't think of anything better than celebrating with GJ, Steve, and Matthew.

Today marked another milestone with Matthew heading off for his 4th year of college.

We will see what the year brings, but he's on track to graduate in May with his major in Political Science and two minors (Creative Writing and Global & International Studies). It's hard to believe - seems like we were just headed off for his freshman year.

Miles for the week are 68, miles for 2015 are 2,238, total miles are 14,492.
Also rode 50 km (my new age) this weekend.  :-)

Take care,

Zelma

This Week's Update [8/16/15] - Summer Weather

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi All,

We had another good week.  The weather was definitely summer-like this weekend.  Normally I don't like the wind, but I appreciated having a breeze today when we rode to Brockport (picture attached).

As much as the weather seems like summer will be here for awhile, it is winding down for Matthew.  Next weekend he heads back to college for his senior year.  The time has flown by - can't believe we are starting year 4.

GJ made lunch for Matthew and me today and surprised me with an early birthday.  Thursday will officially mark a 1/2 century.  Not sure if I am as ambitious as Steve was to ride my age on my birthday.:-)

Miles for the week are 55, miles for 2015 are 2,171, and total miles are 14,425.

Take care,

Zelma

This Week's Update [8/9/15] - Great Weather for Riding

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi All,

Another week seems to have flown by.  In about 2 weeks, Matthew goes back to school - hard to believe the summer has just disappeared.

It has been probably the best weather all summer for bike riding. Today we made it all the way to Buffalo Road on our ride.  [18 miles round trip.]

Miles for the week are 81, miles for 2015 are 2,116, and total miles are 14,370.

Take care,

Zelma

This Week's Update [8/2/15] - Back Home

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi all,

We wrapped up our visit with Sarah, Mike and Olivia Tuesday and headed home (picture of Olivia saying good-bye to Papa included).

Wednesday I had to travel to Canada for work and the rest of the week we spent trying to get back into the regular routine.

The weather has been good with sun but not quite as hot as it was.  Matthew and I took advantage of that this weekend and spent the day at the Sterling Renaissance Festival.  We also managed to squeeze in seeing a classic comedy movie at the Eastman Museum Dryden Theater Saturday night.

Miles for the week are 48, miles for 2015 are 2,035, and total miles are 14,289.

Take care,

Zelma
