This Week's Update [8/30/15] - Some Long Rides

[The Weekly Update is an email that was started in the fall of 2010 to keep family and friends informed of my medical condition and has continued as a review of family activities.  Written by Zelma and edited by Steve. Working on adding past issues to the blog.]

Hi All,

We didn't get to ride many days this week, but the ones we did this weekend were awesome!  Monday, Steve had his next CT scan.  It's not exactly what you would think of, but at this point in time Steve probably has obtained platinum customer status where he goes for the test.  We always have the same staff and got express service to the front of the line on Monday.  It does help that Steve has pictures to show of Olivia.  :-)   We get the test results this Tuesday.

I had to travel for work on Tuesday / Wednesday and didn't get home until very early Thursday morning so those days were also no ride days.  We did make up for that this weekend with the best 3 consecutive days we have had riding this year (52 miles in 3 days). Steve has been talking all season about riding even further west to go to a bike shop on the canal and have ice cream.  It would have been 32 miles round trip from our house (which was unlikely to happen this season) so on Saturday, we put the rack on the car and picked up the canal path a little further west.  It was still a good 20-mile ride round trip.  The bike shop is called Trailside Bicycles in the hamlet of Hurlburton.

For those of you not familiar with New York, a hamlet is the smallest entity of a community (City->Town->Village->Hamlet).  The owner said it was his 4th year in business so he must get most of his customers from canal riders as the only other thing we heard in Hurlburton were crickets.

As you know, Steve and I have a lot of matching jerseys.   Today we wore our black and white checks - complete with matching socks Steve found for us.

Since we rode east, we double back past the stairs at the end of the ride.  My knee was bothering me a little so I stopped at the stairs and Steve rode on to make the final loop.  I had to laugh because the guy who saw me stopped at the stairs also saw Steve on the path at the village and said "There is someone just ahead of you with the same jersey."  :-)

Miles for the week are 52, miles for 2015 are 2,290 and total miles are 14,544.

Take care,

Zelma
